William Shatner says he’s ‘ready to assume command’: Addresses criticism around ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’
In a lighthearted jab at the new Star Trek series ‘Starfleet Academy,’ iconic actor William Shatner, who famously portrayed Captain Kirk, took to social media to share his thoughts. He humorously questioned why intergalactic medical advancements hadn’t solved the issue of hyperopia by the 32nd century, suggesting the budget could be better spent on essentials like eyewear.

Veteran actor William Shatner is best known for playing the role of Captain James T. Kirk in one of the original series of ‘Star Trek.’ In a recent interview, the star addressed the criticism that modern-day versions have been facing.

William Shatner talks about the latest ‘Star Trek’ shows

In a social media post, William Shatner talked about the latest ‘Star Trek’ interpretation titled ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.’ Politician Stephen Miller had earlier posted a note on his account, stating that the series could be saved if Shatner returned and took over the story. In reply, Shatner posted something on his account. The statement read, “I am so on the same page with you @StephenM! The fact that they have not cure Hyperopia by the 32rd Century is an abysmal oversight on the writers!” His post also shared some criticism about the series, citing that the production house responsible for it should “up the budget because I’m sure that a well-oiled organization like Starfleet in the distant future could afford more than one pair of glasses for at least this hyperopic bridge crew.”

He joked about how, in the show, the glasses may be passed around in between people as they drive the ship. Expressing that he would love to take over the franchise and storyline once more, he stated, “I am ready to assume command of the series! Call me! 🤙🏻🙂!”
