'Aditya Dhar plays the sitar and has an ear for music': 'Dhurandhar' singer Vaibhav Gupta on singing for Ranveer Singh starrer

Behind every memorable song in a blockbuster film is a story and the story of how singer Vaibhav Gupta came to lend his voice to ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ is as compelling as anything in the film itself. In a candid interview with India Today, Vaibhav Gupta revealed that his path to one of 2026’s biggest films began not in a recording studio or a film industry office but on Instagram where a reel he posted caught the attention of composer Shashwat Sachdev, the man behind the ‘Dhurandhar’ franchise’s chart-topping score. What followed was a meeting at director Aditya Dhar‘s home and a revelation about Dhar’s own musical depth.

How Shashwat Sachdev discovered Vaibhav Gupta on Instagram

The origin story of Vaibhav Gupta’s ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ journey is interesting, highlighted by a social media scroll. Sharing how he was discovered, Gupta said: “He had even seen my performance on Indian Idol, and he called me just to hear me sing without any technicalities.”

Composer Shashwat Sachdev came across Vaibhav’s reels on Instagram and was sufficiently impressed to reach out not with a brief or a formal audition process but with a simple, direct call to hear the voice in its most natural, unguarded state.

Vaibhav Gupta’s meeting at Aditya Dhar’s home

While Vaibhav Gupta expected a brief, formal introduction from his first meeting with Aditya Dhar, what he got was something that clearly left a lasting impression.“We met at Aditya Dhar’s house, and I was shocked at his knowledge of classical music. Many may not know, but Aditya sir plays the sitar. He has an ear for music, and had the best feedback on how to modulate my voice when we recorded. It was amazing to work with him, as he guided me throughout. Also, honestly, seeing them work so hard changed me as a professional, too,” Gupta revealed.Vaibhav Gupta also revealed how the experience of bagging the song in the film changed him as a professional.“Seeing them work so hard changed me as a professional, too,” Gupta said.Since the release of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ on March 19, 2026, Gupta’s phone has apparently not stopped ringing and the calls are coming from exactly the right places.“The best thing is that the songs I sang from my heart have reached the music directors. They have sent me personal messages; they have called me; they have told me that they haven’t heard a voice like mine in a long time. So I am hopeful that you will hear some amazing songs from my side in the future,” Gupta revealed.
