Madalsa Sharma, daughter-in-law of Mithun Chakraborty, recalls uncomfortable meeting with filmmaker at 19: 'He wanted to see me in bikini'

Madalsa Sharma, who is best known for playing Kavya in the hit TV show Anupamaa, recently opened up about an unsettling experience from the early days of her film career. The actress, who is married to Mahaakshay Chakraborty, son of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, recalled how a ‘renowned filmmaker’ once made an inappropriate request during a meeting when she was just 19.

‘I am an actor, not here to prove it like this’

Speaking on Hauterrfly, Madalsa revealed that the filmmaker had called her for a meeting and asked if she would be comfortable wearing a bikini. While she initially didn’t see it as a major issue, she wanted clarity on whether it was relevant to the script.“I was around 19 at that time. He told me he was looking for a girl who was comfortable in a bikini. I thought it’s not a big deal, but I wanted to understand the story—whether it was justified or something else,” she shared. However, things took an uncomfortable turn when the filmmaker allegedly asked her to wear a bikini in front of him to “check her body language.”Recalling her response, Madalsa said, “I told him I am an actor by profession. If a role demands a bikini, saree, or lehenga, I’m comfortable doing it in front of the camera because that’s my job. But wearing it in front of you is not part of my job.”She added that she made her stance clear, telling the filmmaker that he could cast her based on her talent—or she would walk away. “If you trust my talent, you can cast me. If not, I know where the door is,” she said.

‘Found out later they were dating’

Madalsa further revealed that a few days later, she came to know that the filmmaker had cast someone else for the same project—and that they were reportedly dating. Madalsa made her acting debut with the Telugu film Fitting Master in 2009 and went on to feature in films like Shourya, Samrat & Co., and Ram Leela. However, it was her role in Anupamaa, starring Rupali Ganguly, that brought her widespread recognition.
