TN tops in CBSE Class X results with 99.92% pass

Chennai: Tamil Nadu emerged as the top state this year in CBSE class X results with a pass percentage of 99.92, improving on last year’s figure of 99.86%. The nationwide pass percentage was 93.70%.Of the 1,11,603 students who appeared for exams at 1,904 centres in the state, 1,11,509 passed the exam, data released by CBSE said. Further, Chennai region — which comprises parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Puducherry and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands — registered a pass percentage of 99.58%, falling only behind Trivandrum (99.79%) and Vijayawada (99.79%), a release shared by the board revealed.Girls outperformed boys in the exams — about 99.96% of girls passed the test as against 99.92% boys in Tamil Nadu and 99.73% of girls passed the test in the Chennai region as against 99.5% boys. Kendriya Vidyalayas recorded a pass percentage of 99.98 and govt-aided schools, 100.This year, CBSE introduced two board exams for its students — with the second one being an improvement exam allowing students to improve their scores in a maximum of three subjects. Now, with the results having been announced, the board has asked schools to expedite the finalisation of the list of candidates for the second exam. The process will go on from April 16 to 22.School heads feel that a lot of students will enlist for improvement in the maths exam. “Already, more than 60 students expressed interest. Over the next five days, we are expecting the number to increase for the subject. The average and centums for maths have also come down this year across the country,” said P G Subramanian, principal, Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidhyashram.
