Chandrapur: A 46-year-old man was killed in a tiger attack in the agricultural fields of Vahanagaon village in Chimur taluka, with his body recovered nearly a day later on Friday evening.The victim, Shankar Dadaji Masram, had returned to his native village on Thursday from Khambada in Warora taluka to attend a religious programme. During the visit, he went to perform a ‘pooja’ for his newly purchased two-wheeler near a mahua tree in the fields.According to officials, a tiger, believed to have been hiding along the stream, attacked him. He died on the spot. When Masram did not return home, his family began searching and later filed a missing complaint.On Friday evening, villagers and relatives located his scarf and spectacles near a stream close to the cremation ground. His mutilated body was later found a short distance away.Forest officials from the Khadsangi buffer range reached the site, conducted a panchnama, and sent the body for post-mortem to the sub-district hospital in Chimur.The Forest Department has announced financial assistance to the family and urged residents to remain vigilant amid increased tiger movement.This is 14 human kill in predator attacks on Chandrapur this year, including 13 caused by tigers. In 2025, the district recorded 47 fatalities in predator attacks.
