The new trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s ‘The Odyssey’ dropped online, giving fans a bunch of character first looks, epic battles, mythical creatures, but it is a dialogue that has social media buzzing.The trailer, featuring dialogues between Robert Pattinson‘s Antinous, the primary villain, and Tom Holland‘s Telemachus, has seemingly irked netizens awaiting the epic this summer. Following the trailer launch, many took to social media to praise the film’s cinematic scale while criticising what they describe as ‘ridiculous’ Americanised dialogues.
Viewers have taken issue with a line delivered by Pattinson’s character Antinous who tells Telemachus, “You’re pining for a daddy that you didn’t even know.” Holland’s Telemachus also has a line that says, “My dad is coming home.” The dialogues have not only raised eyebrows but have fans of the book slamming the Americanisation of the story.“The new trailer for The Odyssey looks absolutely stunning. Christopher Nolan leaves no stone unturned and is a master of the visuals. The only thing that bugs me is Tom Holland’s character saying, “My dad is coming home.” Come on, Spidey, this is supposed to be a period film,” one user wrote.Another commented, “Anyone else think the dialogue in The Odyssey trailer is all over the place . You got some characters talking in a Shakespearean tone while another throws out the line ” my Dad will return” seems really off.”A third viewer added, “I’ve been withholding judgment on nolan’s the odyssey cause i’ve actually enjoyed the visuals so far but hearing tom holland say ‘my dad is coming home’ took me so far out of it idk if i can recover.”Some reactions also questioned the historical tone of the language. “”Daddy” in the Late Bronze Age?? Mycenaean Greece wasn’t doing TikTok dialogue… but Nolan’s Odyssey might convince some people otherwise,” one post read, while another noted, “Interesting that Nolan is going with Daddy and Dad instead of father.”Despite the criticism, several viewers acknowledged the film’s impressive scale. “the odyssey dialogue is kinda ridiculous and tom holland telemachus saying “dad” annoyed me bad but the movie looks so incredible i can’t really be mad,” one user wrote.The film, based on the ancient Greek epic, remains one of Nolan’s most anticipated projects of the year.
