Sambalpur: With temperatures hovering above 42°C in western Odisha, Sambalpur Zoo has rolled out a series of measures to protect animals from extreme heat. It will help maintain temperature inside the premises nearly 10 degrees lower than outside.The zoo, Odisha’s second zoological park and earlier known as a deer park, has 17 covered enclosures with thatch and bamboo screens and conducts water sprinkling twice daily — at 11 am and 3 pm — to cool the surroundings. Continuous water supply and water pools have also been ensured. tnnto help animals cope with the scorching conditions. Dietary changes have been introduced keeping with summer, while coolers have been installed for the big cats.
