IMD forecasts thunderstorms, hail and heavy rain across these states: Travel advisory to check out

Tourists traveling to different places in India might experience weather-induced problems in the coming days since the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a number of thunderstorms, rainfall, hailstorms, strong winds, and heat waves across various parts of the country. As per the latest All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin, there will be various weather systems impacting tourism spots and transit routes.Weather-wise, Northeastern India, eastern parts of the country, Western Himalayan region, and southern parts of India will have some weather activities, whereas heat waves will emerge in western Rajasthan by the end of the week. For travellers planning road trips, hill station holidays, beach vacations or inter-state journeys, changing weather conditions could affect visibility, transport schedules and local mobility.Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to persist in Northeast India till May 10 over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. The IMD has issued warnings for isolated heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, along with Assam and Meghalaya. Such weather conditions might affect the road travel due to the chances of landslides, low visibility and water logging in some parts.

Similarly, in Eastern India, there is an anticipation of active weather conditions. It is expected that heavy rains and thunderstorms would prevail over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Gangetic West Bengal with isolated heavy rain prevailing in the northern parts of West Bengal and Sikkim. A thundersquall with winds blowing at 70 kmph is also predicted over Gangetic West Bengal on May 9, which may cause delays in transportation systems. Hence, travellers planning their trip to Darjeeling and Kalimpong might have to keep track of weather conditions.Over north-west India, there will be patchy rainfall and isolated thunder showers over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and east Rajasthan until May 8. On May 10-12, another rainy phase can be seen in the Western Himalayan region. While rains could provide temporary respite from the heating conditions, strong winds along with lightning activity could disrupt air and road traffic.South India will also experience an unstable weather condition over the next few days. Patchy rainfall accompanied with lightning activity along with isolated gusts of winds will occur over Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. According to the forecast made by IMD, isolated heavy showers are predicted over Tamil Nadu and Kerala for the next seven days. On May 7-8, isolated heavy showers are also predicted over south interior Karnataka.On the other hand, temperature levels are predicted to increase gradually in Northwest and Central India in the upcoming days. Heat waves are expected in some parts of west Rajasthan from May 9 to May 11. Warm and humid conditions are predicted to prevail over Konkan, Goa, and coastal Gujarat from May 9 to May 12, possibly causing issues for sightseeing tours and long-distance road trips.Various weather systems affecting India currently are the active Western Disturbance, various cyclonic circulations prevailing in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Telangana, as well as a trough extending north-south over the Gulf of Mannar.Tourists are advised to add some flexibility in their schedule, stay updated with information related to airlines and railways, and not go out during the onset of thunderstorms and hail storms.
