Delhi traffic fines? How you can settle them at Lok Adalat on May 9

Motorists in the capital who have been putting off clearing their pending traffic challans now have a limited window to settle them with ease. A National Lok Adalat will be held across Delhi on May 9, 2026, offering vehicle owners a chance to close old challans through a quicker process, often at reduced penalties. The initiative is organised by the Delhi State Legal Services Authority under the National Legal Services Authority.

Delhi Lok Adalat on May 9: Key venues and timings

The Lok Adalat will function across all major district court complexes in the city, including Tis Hazari, Karkardooma, Saket, Patiala House, Rohini, Dwarka and Rouse Avenue. Proceedings are scheduled between 10 am and 4 pm, giving people the flexibility to visit a court that is convenient or relevant to where the challan was issued.

Delhi Lok Adalat on May 9: How to enroll

To take part, prior registration is compulsory. The registration window opens from May 4 and will continue till May 7, starting daily at 10 am. Applicants need to book their slot through the Delhi Traffic Police’s official portal. Authorities have capped the number of challans at 50,000 per day, with an overall limit of 2 lakh cases for this Lok Adalat. Once registered, motorists must download and print their challan along with the appointment slip carrying the token number, which will be required at the venue.

Not all offences will be considered. The initiative focuses on traffic violations such as riding without a helmet, not wearing a seat belt, over-speeding, jumping signals and improper parking. However, serious offences like drunk driving, hit-and-run incidents and major accidents are excluded. Only challans issued up to January 31, 2026, are eligible for settlement during this session.On the day of the hearing, individuals are required to carry all necessary documents and report at their allotted time. A judicial officer will review the case, and depending on the nature of the offence, may reduce the penalty or waive it in certain cases. If a fine is imposed, it has to be paid immediately at the court. Once the process is completed, the challan is cleared from the system.
