3rd year engineering student dies after jumping from mall in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: A third-year engineering student died after jumping from the fourth floor of a mall in Peelamedu, Coimbatore on Wednesday night.The deceased was identified as R Steven Clifford George, 21, from Vidyaranyapura, Bengaluru. He was a third-year B.Tech Computer Science student at a private university in Coimbatore district.According to police, he had gone to the mall to watch a movie at the theatre on the fourth floor. After the movie ended at around 9:50pm, he came out of the theatre and jumped from the building. He died on the spot due to the impact.After being alerted, Peelamedu police reached the scene and recovered the body. It was sent to ESI Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem.A police officer said he had not been attending university regularly and had more than 20 arrears. The officer added that he had been suffering from severe depression and was on medication.
