NEW DELHI: Former England captain Michael Vaughan was left visibly stunned during a candid interaction with former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, as a conversation about Ferraris turned into the highlight of their interview on The Overlap Cricket. The exchange unfolded during a tour of Modi’s England residence, where the discussion shifted to his prized Ferrari collection. Recalling his fascination with the luxury car brand, Modi revealed how it all began. “When I was a child and I was growing up, my father would never buy me a Ferrari. He said, ‘No, you know, it’s too fast. You’ll kill yourself.’ I had always wanted a Ferrari,” he said.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. But what followed left Vaughan shell-shocked. “So, I was gifted one for my 40th birthday. But then what I did is, I make a point that every birthday of my son from the age of 21, I give him one,” he added.Revealing the scale of the collection, Modi said, “So, we have one of the largest collections of Ferrari. There’s 32 now. He has got 11 of them.”A stunned Vaughan could only respond, “So, he’s quite a lucky chap.” Modi quipped back, “A lucky chap just because I couldn’t get one.”Still processing the revelation, Vaughan joked, “What about for something like me, you know, an old washed-up cricketer? Any Ferraris going for me?” Modi, smiling, replied, “Well, let’s see.”Beyond the luxury talk, Modi also shared his views on emerging talent, singling out young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as a future star. He recalled being in disbelief watching the teenager bat, saying he even checked if the player’s age was real. While Vaughan raised concerns about handling fame and money, Modi admitted the league has created both opportunities and excess. Yet, he maintained that it has also unearthed rare talents, adding that many more such players are waiting in the wings.
