Akshay Kumar’s direct confirmation

In the live session held this week, Akshay Kumar addressed questions about Gorkha. He responded straightforwardly without any hesitation. The statement ended years of speculation around the delayed project.“Nahi Gorkha movie nahi ban rahi hai – kisine abhi poocha hai (No… Gorkha movie is not being made – someone had asked about the film).”

Earlier updates from Aanand L Rai

Filmmaker Aanand L Rai spoke about the film in 2023, denying reports that Akshay Kumar had walked out. However, he admitted the project faced serious hurdles at that time.“Yes, it is true. We are not making this film for now. There are technical issues. There are factual clarifications that need to be made.”

Announcement and concept of Gorkha

‘Gorkha’ was announced in October 2021. National Award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan was set to helm the film. It was planned as a biographical war drama on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo of the 5th Gorkha Rifles.Akshay Kumar was set to play the decorated officer who served in the 1962, 1965, and 1971 wars. The first-look poster created strong interest among audiences. The project aimed to bring the hero’s inspiring story to a wider public.Despite initial excitement the film faced multiple obstacles. Technical issues and the need for factual clarifications slowed progress, and the biopic remained in limbo for several years. With Gorkha now officially shelved, attention turns to Akshay Kumar’s upcoming release ‘Bhooth Bangla’. Advance bookings for ‘Bhooth Bangla’ have shown positive momentum. According to Sacnilk, the film has registered healthy ticket sales across India ahead of its April 17 theatrical debut.
