LIV Golf is facing fresh questions after a leaked email from CEO Scott O’Neil started a storm online. The message was meant to calm staff, but instead it raised more doubts. This comes at a tense time, with growing fears that Saudi Arabia could pull its reported $6 billion backing due to the ongoing Iran crisis.

Scott O’Neil’s email tries to calm LIV Golf fears but one strange line sparks fan backlash

Scott O’Neil told staff that everything is still on track. He wrote, “I want to be crystal clear. Our season continues exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle.”He also said the league will keep pushing forward and “disrupt the status quo,” with the next event set for Mexico City.At first, the message sounded strong and confident. But then fans noticed something odd at the end. O’Neil signed off with: “It matters. You mattered. Now, let’s go win.”That one line changed the whole mood. Many fans felt “you mattered” sounded like something written after something had already ended. It didn’t match the message of confidence earlier in the email.Because of that, people started asking if the email was rushed, unfinished, or even copied from an earlier draft. Instead of calming fears, it made things feel more uncertain.

Fans question Saudi backing and future of LIV Golf as Mexico City event moves ahead

The bigger concern behind all this is money. Since 2022, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has reportedly invested close to $6 billion into LIV Golf. Now, with tensions rising in the Middle East, there are worries that funding could stop.According to Daily Mail Sport, several agents said they had no clear information about what is happening behind the scenes. That silence has only made players and staff more nervous.Fans were quick to react online. One wrote, “‘You mattered’ as the signoff here is either a bad typo or left uncorrected from a prior version of this email that was about the league ending?”Another said, “Not a word of this disputes reports that the PIF is pulling out.”Some even called the email “AI-written” and “laughably bad,” while another added, “Dude can’t even proofread his own letter.”Even with all this noise, LIV Golf is still moving forward. The Mexico City event is scheduled to begin at 1:15 pm local time. The league’s official account posted, “Slow news day? We are ON. #LongLIVGolf.”So for now, the tour continues. But the questions are not going away.
