The world of ‘Tumbbad’, rooted in folklore, greed, and the terrifying legend of Hastar, is getting a major upgrade. Alia Bhatt has officially kickstarted filming for ‘Tumbbad 2’, marking her first foray into the atmospheric horror genre. According to recent reports, Bhatt’s involvement isn’t just a cameo; it’s a strategic performance designed to transition the story into a grand finale. The sequel’s scale is significantly larger than the 2018 original.

Alia Bhatt’s role in ‘Tumbbad 2’

According to Pinkvilla, while Sohum Shah remains the face of the franchise, the addition of Alia Bhatt adds a new layer of intrigue. Although her screen time is limited to a 20-day shooting schedule, her character is reportedly the catalyst for a major plot twist that concludes the second film. Additionally, her role isn’t just a cameo; it is designed to spearhead the finale in ‘Tumbbad 3’, where she will take a lead position alongside Sohum Shah. Unlike the indie roots of the 2018 original, ‘Tumbbad 2’ is being mounted on a grand scale with a budget of Rs. 100 crore.The report further stated that joining the project was a simple choice for the ‘Gully Boy’ actress, who found the script so compelling that she didn’t hesitate to sign on.The ‘Hastar’ mythology is set to return to the big screen on December 3, 2027. The production team has reportedly built massive sets including a 7-8 acre setup in Mumbai to capture the atmospheric dread that made the first film a masterpiece. Directed by Aadesh Prasad, the star cast features Sohum Shah, Alia Bhatt and Nawazuddin Siddiqui with the tagline: “Pralay Aayega.” (Doomsday will come)

Alia Bhatt has several projects lined up like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic period drama, ‘Love and War’ with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal. She also has ‘Alpha’, a YRF Spy Universe film where she will be seen as a fierce super-spy in this high-octane actioner alongside Sharvari, slated for a release on July 10, 2026.
