Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun’ and ‘Maverick’ to re-release in India for 40th anniversary

Tom Cruise has worked on some of Hollywood’s most iconic films throughout his career. This also includes ‘Top Gun’, the famed action-adventure first released in 1986. As the film’s 40th anniversary approaches, fans of the franchise in India are in for a big surprise!

‘Top Gun’ to re-release in India for 40th anniversary

According to a social media post by the leading film production and distribution company, ‘Top Gun’ will be re-released in theatres. Both films of the beloved action franchise, ‘Top Gun’, as well as ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, will be released in theatres soon. The movies are being released for the big screen again to follow the first film’s 40th anniversary. ‘Top Gun’ was released on May 16, 1986, while ‘Maverick’ was released on May 27, 2022. The post confirming the re-release read, “This #TopGun Day, see TOP GUN and TOP GUN: MAVERICK back on the big screen for a special one-week-only theatrical event.”Fans and moviegoers will have the opportunity to revisit the films, or watch them for the very first time on the big screen from May 15 onwards across select theatres in the country. The films will have a limited run lasting only a week to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary.

About ‘Top Gun’ and ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

‘Top Gun’ stars Cruise, along with Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Meg Ryan, Tom Skerritt, and many others. The story follows Lieutenant Pete, nicknamed ‘Maverick’, a well-known and talented US Navy fighter pilot. He gets selected into the prestigious and highly competitive Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School.‘Top Gun: Maverick’ returns years after the first film, following Pete’s story set almost 30 years after the incidents of the first film. In this film, Cruise’s character returns to the Top Gun academy, this time around as an instructor tasked with training a group of graduates for a specialized, and impossible mission.
