Radikaa Sarathkumar’s ‘Thaai Kizhavi’ is a box office success, grossing over Rs 58 crore worldwide in its third week. Radikaa Sarathkumar’s film ‘Thaai Kizhavi’ continues its steady run at the box office. The rural entertainer has maintained stable numbers even in its third week and has now crossed a major milestone after 18 days in theatres.According to figures reported by the Sacnilk website, the film has collected Rs 58.22 crore gross worldwide. Its overall net collection stands at Rs 50.87 crore so far.

Day 16 and day 17 numbers show weekend growth

The film recorded an encouraging jump during the third weekend. On Day 16 (third Saturday), the movie collected Rs 3.10 crore. It ran 1,093 shows and registered an occupancy of 29.5%. The numbers improved on Day 17 (third Sunday as it collected Rs 3.42 crore that day. It had 1,086 shows, with an occupancy of 33.3%.

Debut director blends comedy and drama

The film is directed by debutant Sivakumar Murugesan and his impressive storytelling blends humour with emotional drama.The story revolves around Pavunuthaayi. However, her children play a major role in driving the narrative forward. The film combines elements of rural comedy and character-driven storytelling.

ETimes exclusive review noted the film’s unique mix of humour and drama. It said, “With Thaai Kizhavi, debutant Sivakumar Murugesan spins an entertaining film that’s part rural farce and part women empowerment drama.”The review also pointed out how the characters shape the story. It stated, “While the film revolves around Pavunuthaayi, it’s her sons (Singampuli, Aruldoss and Balasaravanan) and her daughter (Rebecca Raichal) who take it forward.”The review added that the characters are clearly defined. According to the review, “The director clearly delineates the characters of the three brothers — the eldest, Kamal Uppiliyan is a die-hard Kamal fan; the middle one Vijayan is a down-on-luck auto driver while the third one, Suruli (Balasaravanan) is a flower seller.”The review further explained the family dynamics. It noted, “The daughter, Suruli, meanwhile, is separated from her husband 2 Idly (Muthukumar) and lives with her mother.”Another character also plays an important role in the story.
