VASAI: A taxi with two occupants veered off the main road, broke through the boundary wall of a relatively dry public well, and plunged 20-25ft to the bottom in Nalasopara East on Monday afternoon. The driver and his friend sustained minor injuries and were rescued by the fire brigade in 30-45 minutes. Alleging that both were drunk, a local said one of them was learning to drive but lost control of the vehicle. He said the rescuers used a ladder and a belt to pull them out. Fire brigade officials said the two friends were lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries. No FIR has been filed.
