Talwiinder faces backlash from social media as he collaborates with Pakistani singer Hasan Raheem: 'This is not a joke'

Indian singer Talwiinder has landed in the middle of a controversy after making a surprise appearance at Pakistani singer Hasan Raheem’s concert in Toronto. While several fans appreciated the cross-border musical moment, others criticised the singer amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. On Tuesday, Talwiinder shared a series of photos and videos from the Toronto concert on Instagram. Alongside glimpses from the show, he wrote, “Wishes came true in Toronto w/ @hasan_raheem.” Videos circulating on the internet captured Talwiinder joining Hasan Raheem on stage, performing with him, sharing a hug, and dancing together. The surprise collaboration soon sparked debate on social media, with reactions pouring in from both supporters and critics. As clips from the concert went viral, several users on X expressed their disappointment. One user wrote, “Meet Talvindar attending the concert of Hasan Raheem, who had mocked/made fun of our Operation Sindoor. Why do some of the Punjabis have so much affection for Pakistanis??” Another commented, “1 year of Operation Sindoor, we are back to performing with Pakistani Artists abroad. If you don’t get the backlash, go ask the victim/armed forces involved – what it means to them.” A user said, “Why is Talwinder hanging out with a Pakistani who literally said this! These artists have no shame & those who support them are much bigger menace in this society.”

At the same time, many users came out in support of Talwiinder, arguing that music and art should remain separate from political tensions. One supporter wrote, “Do you think there were no Indians in the concert? And given it was a surprise appearance by Talwiinder, this just means so many Indians just went to see a Pakistani artist. Which is super normal, Indians mingle with Pakistanis pretty well in Toronto.”Talwiinder, whose full name is Talwiinder Singh Sidhu, initially built his audience through platforms like Spotify and YouTube by posting original tracks and covers including Phir Mohabbat. He gained widespread popularity in 2022 with songs such as Kammo Ji, Dhundhala, and Funk Song. In 2024, he released his debut album Misfit, which featured 13 tracks.
