Southend street brawl: Dozens clash, two teens stabbed

A large street brawl involving dozens of youths left two teenagers in hospital after violence broke out in Southend city centre, prompting emergency police powers.The disorder unfolded on Southend High Street at around 7.50 pm on Friday, with reports that at least 30 individuals were involved, some armed with knives and bottles. Police were called following concerns that weapons were being used during the clash.Two teenagers suffered knife injuries to the face and were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, according to The Sun.In response, Essex Police introduced emergency measures to prevent further unrest. Officers have been granted powers to stop and search individuals and vehicles for weapons, and to require the removal of face coverings in designated areas.A dispersal order has also been put in place, covering a large section of the city centre and seafront, including Southend High Street and surrounding roads. The measures were introduced under public order and anti-social behaviour legislation. Police said the action was necessary to maintain public safety after the large-scale disturbance.Authorities have not confirmed whether any arrests have been made. Officers remain in the area as enquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.The violence has led to an increased police presence across Southend, with further updates expected as the investigation develops.
