'Seasoned diplomat': Trump congratulates former envoy to US Taranjit Sandhu on  Delhi LG appointment

US President Donald Trump on Thursday congratulated Taranjit Singh Sandhu on his appointment as the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, praising his diplomatic career and contribution to India-US relations.Sharing a photo with Sandhu on Truth Social, Trump said, “Congratulations to Taranjit Sandhu on becoming the new Lt Governor of Delhi!”“As a seasoned Diplomat and former Ambassador to the United States, he has always shown deep commitment to strengthening the US-India relationship. Wishing him success in leading Delhi’s progress, and furthering global ties!” he added.Sandhu, a former Indian ambassador to the United States, assumed charge as Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor on March 11 at a ceremony held at Lok Niwas, the official LG residence.The oath of office was administered by the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court in the presence of Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta, cabinet members and senior officials.He succeeded V K Saxena, who had held the post for nearly four years. His appointment was announced by President Droupadi Murmu as part of a broader reshuffle of gubernatorial positions.A 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, Sandhu brings over three decades of diplomatic experience. He has served as India’s ambassador to Washington DC, deputy chief of mission in the US from 2013 to 2017, and earlier as first secretary (political). He also served as India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.The reshuffle also saw R N Ravi moved from Tamil Nadu to West Bengal as governor, replacing C V Ananda Bose.
