Ranbir Kapoor was made to fly economy as a child, just like Alia Bhatt; 'They carpool for school"
Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and Ranbir Kapoor experienced a disciplined childhood, despite their famous lineage. Parents Rishi and Neetu Kapoor ensured they understood the value of money through carpools, fixed pocket money, and economy class travel. This approach aimed to instill financial prudence, a lesson echoed by Soni Razdan’s similar travel rules for her children.

Riddhima Kapoor Sahni has said she and Ranbir Kapoor did not grow up with star-kid privileges despite being born into one of Bollywood’s most famous families. The daughter of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor said their parents gave them a loving but disciplined childhood, with carpool rides to school, fixed pocket money, and budgeted foreign trips. Neetu Kapoor also revealed that Ranbir and Riddhima traveled in economy class as children so they could learn the value of money.

Ranbir Kapoor’s childhood was kept simple

Speaking to Soha Ali Khan on her podcast ‘All About Her’, Riddhima said Rishi and Neetu treated both children equally and kept their home life normal. “There was no difference between us when we were growing up. We grew up in a very loving home. Of course, there was discipline, but it was a very normal upbringing. We did everything ourselves. It wasn’t like we came from a star family,” she said.Riddhima, who recently entered showbiz with ‘Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives’, spent years away from the camera and focused on her business career after marrying Bharat Sahni. She later appeared with Neetu in ‘Dadi Ki Shaadi’.

Neetu Kapoor on economy class trips

Neetu said she and Rishi made sure their children did not take luxury for granted. “They were very normal children. They would carpool for school. They didn’t have a driver. They only got a fixed amount of money to spend. Even when they travelled overseas, they flew economy class, stayed with friends, and shared apartments. My husband was very particular that they should understand the value of money,” Neetu said. She also said Rishi avoided buying expensive things for Riddhima. “He never let me buy her anything too expensive. He used to say she would never value things that her husband would buy her. They travelled and lived like any normal children,” she added.

Soni Razdan on family holidays that came with budgets

Alia Bhatt had a similar childhood travel rule. In the book ‘Raising Stars: The Challenges and Joys of Being A Bollywood Parent’, Soni Razdan recalled, “Once, we were travelling to Dubai and could not afford three business-class tickets. I told my children, ‘I will travel first class, and you guys travel economy.’ They made a face.”She added, “My logic was you have not earned enough to travel in business class as yet. Once you earn enough to afford the business class fare, please travel in business class. Simple as that.”
