'Puthiya Geethai' director KP Jagan reveals an UNTOLD story behind Vijay's controversial dialogue against Ajith, admits MISTAKE

The 2003 movie ‘Puthiya Geethai’ is one of the most influential Tamil films ever made, which saw a massive controversy around an insane dialogue of the movie that has created a huge uproar among the fans. The film was directed by KP Jagan and starred a lineup cast of Meera Jasmine, Amisha Patel, Kalabhavan Mani, Karunas, Nassar, and Sarath Babu. The film had music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, while the background score was handled by Karthik Raja. Even though the film received mixed reviews after its release, one particular fight scene in a fish market became widely discussed because of a bold dialogue delivered by Vijay.

KP Jagan reveals Vijay initially did not want the dialogue

Years later, director KP Jagan has opened up about the making of that scene and revealed that Vijay was actually hesitant to say the dialogue. In a recent interview with the Cinema Vikatan, the filmmaker admitted that the idea for the line came from him. “I am a big fan of Vijay. The fan inside me wanted to include that dialogue,” he said. However, Vijay reportedly advised against it from the beginning. According to Jagan, the actor told him clearly that such a line was unnecessary. “Vijay said we should not hate anyone and suggested we avoid that dialogue,” the director explained.

‘Puthiya Geethai’ director admits he insisted Vijay deliver the line

Despite Vijay’s hesitation, KP Jagan said he insisted on keeping the dialogue in the film. He revealed that he repeatedly requested the actor to say it for the sake of the fans. “I told him, ‘Please, sir, say it for the fans,’ and I kept insisting,” Jagan said. Eventually, Vijay agreed to perform the scene. In the film, the character delivers a bold line during a fight scene, which many viewers at that time believed was indirectly referring to actor Ajith Kumar. This interpretation sparked discussions among fans and media after the film’s release.

KP Jagan calls the decision a mistake

Looking back now, KP Jagan admitted that insisting on the dialogue was a mistake. The director said he later realised that such an approach was not appropriate. “At that age, I did not understand it properly. Later, I realised it was not a civilized way to handle things,” he said. Jagan also mentioned that Vijay had warned him not to do anything unnecessary. Today, the director openly acknowledges that the decision was wrong and that he should have listened to Vijay. The interview clip where Jagan shared this confession has now gone viral on social media, bringing the old controversy around ‘Puthiya Geethai’ back into discussion.
