‘Patriot’, the upcoming Malayalam spy action thriller directed by Mahesh Narayanan, is gearing up for its worldwide theatrical release on May 1, 2026. The film has already started generating strong early buzz which is especially in overseas markets.As the release nears, an early review is out online and it says that the movie has come out well.
Overseas pre-sales performance of ‘Patriot’
The film has recorded solid numbers in overseas advance bookings. Its pre-sales have crossed the 200,000 USD mark.According to trade analyst Jerin Georgekutty, the current total stands at USD 201,000. This translates to approximately Rs 1.88 crore in real-time gross collections.
Censor reports and initial feedback for the Mammootty starrer
In a post shared on X, AB George provided an update on the film’s overseas censor process. He noted that certification is progressing region by region and is close to completion.He also shared that early feedback from the process has been encouraging. The tweet reads, “#Patriot overseas censoring – all areas completing one by one & reports suggest that the movie comes out well. Meaty role & duration for both Ms. #Mammookka #Lalettan.” ‘Patriot’s editing has been carried out by Mahesh Narayanan along with Rahul Radhakrishnan. The music and background score have been composed by Sushin Shyam and cinematography is handled by Manush Nandan.
Mammootty on branding films as ‘Pan Indian’
The cast and crew recently held a promotional press conference in Kochi. During the interaction, director Mahesh Narayanan spoke about the vision behind the film.As reported by Money Control, at the same event, Mammootty addressed the growing trend of branding films as “pan-India” projects. He made it clear that Patriot was not created with that label in mind.Mammootty explained that the film is primarily intended for Malayalam-speaking audiences. He also noted that audience preferences in Kerala have evolved over time. At the same time, the makers hope the film will connect the audiences beyond regional boundaries.‘Patriot’ stars Mammootty, Mohanlal, Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Darshana Rajendran and others in the lead.
