JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir govt told the assembly Thursday that it has no proposal to establish a commission for women in the UT as National Commission for Women already has a special “J&K and Ladakh Cell”, a unit set up after the abrogation of Article 370.During a cut motion, Peoples Conference’s Sajad Lone said, “I see no reason why the govt should not establish women’s commission, which is a vital institution for women’s empowerment.”Reminding that the LG administration had approved the reconstitution of the Jammu and Kashmir Commission for Women in Feb 2022, Lone said, “I fail to understand why this govt is not taking the process forward.”He accused the Omar govt of ignoring issues related to women, children, and juveniles. When the erstwhile state women’s commission was shut down on Oct 23, 2019, after the abrogation of Article 370, over 5,000 cases were pending with it.
