Nissan’s Creta rival Tekton launch postponed: All you need to know

Nissan India has postponed the launch of its upcoming mid-size SUV, the Tekton. The model will compete in one of the highly-contested segments in the country and hence will also compete against the popular Hyundai Creta. The carmaker is yet to announce revised launch timelines for the model. The delay comes close on the heels of the postponement of Nissan’s other upcoming product, the Gravite MPV.Earlier, Nissan had confirmed that the Gravite, a budget-friendly seven-seater MPV, would be introduced first, followed by the Tekton SUV. The Gravite was initially scheduled to make its debut on January 21, but the launch event has since been pushed back, with new dates to be announced. Now, the Tekton has also been delayed, though Nissan has not cited specific reasons for the revised timelines.

Nissan Tekton: What to expect

The SUV features a clean yet futuristic look, with a wide horizontal grille dominating the front fascia. The grille stretches almost edge-to-edge and is paired with slim, sharply styled LED headlamps. It also features a sleek LED light strip with distinctive C-shaped signatures at both ends.

At the rear, the design continues with a full-width LED light bar that connects the C-shaped tail lamps. The Tekton nameplate is prominently displayed on the tailgate and also appears on the bonnet in bold lettering. The name “Tekton” is derived from a Greek word meaning “craftsman” or “architect”.Nissan has not yet revealed the interior of the Tekton, but the SUV is expected to be well-equipped. Likely features include a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera system and a fully digital driver’s display. More details are expected closer to the launch.Powertrain details are also under wraps for now. However, the Tekton is expected to be offered with both NA and turbocharged petrol engine options. With Nissan’s India sales currently driven largely by the Magnite, the Tekton is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the brand’s presence in the country. Once launched, it will compete in the crowded mid-size SUV segment against rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
