Actor Max Irons, portraying Mycroft Holmes in the new Sherlock origin series, shared a quirky anecdote about co-star Colin Firth. Irons revealed the legendary actor’s unusual habit of playing ping pong in hotel corridors at 3 a.m., much to the amusement of his castmates.

The new period mystery drama based on the foundational years of Sherlock Holmes is getting praise from fans. With the ensemble cast, Actor Max Irons, who essays the role of Sherlock Holmes’ brother Mycroft Holmes, feels fortunate to work with such great actors. Recently, the actor revealed one of his co-stars’ unique habits. He revealed one habit of legendary actor Colin Firth, who plays Sir Bucephalus Hodge in the series, that he loves to do at 3 a.m.

Collin Herth loves to play ping pong at 3 am in the morning

In a chat with HT City, Max Irons called the opportunity to share the screen with Firth a privilege. “He’s one of the funniest, silliest, most playful men I’ve ever worked with,” he added. Irons revealed that Colin Firth “loves playing ping pong in hotel corridors at three in the morning, disturbing all the guests.”Max says, “He’s (Colin) just so fun and he understands that to be an actor is to play and to be silly, to try and stay in that mindset and not to take it seriously. He’s great. I loved him and it feels a real privilege to be with him.”

Max Irons says Mycroft is an important character in the Sherlock universe

Max Irons essays the role of Sherlock Holmes’ brother Mycroft Holmes in the show, and he asserts Mycroft’s importance in the Sherlock universe. He says, “I think Mycroft is a useful counterbalance to Sherlock. Sherlock, at this particular point in his life, is a bit anarchic, a bit unstructured and a bit of an agent of chaos. Mycroft, on the other hand, is a believer in being an agent for change within the system, within the constraints of the system.”

About ‘Young Sherlock

This 2026 mystery thriller series serves as an origin story for the legendary detective and is inspired by Andrew Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes novel series. Hero Fiennes Tiffin plays the lead role as young Sherlock Holmes. The first season consists of 8 episodes, all of which premiered on March 4, 2026 on Prime Video.
