Maruti Victoris vs Renault Duster: Strong-hybrid engine specs compared

The midsize SUV space is one of the highly-contested segments in the country and within that, the hybrid technology is slowly becoming mainstream. While the Maruti Suzuki, launched last year, already offers a strong hybrid powertrain, the upcoming Renault Duster will also get it. Here’s how these two engines compare on paper.

The Maruti Victoria uses a strong-hybrid layout built around a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor and an e-CVT gearbox. The combined output stands at around 116 hp and 141 Nm. It also gets a 0.76 kWh battery pack and offers multiple drive modes such as Eco, Normal and Power.

Renault has taken a different route with the Duster. Its strong-hybrid system is based on a larger 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with two electric motors and a bigger 1.4 kWh battery. Power is sent to the wheels through a multi-mode automatic. This setup is expected to produce around 158–160 hp of combined power and roughly 172 Nm of torque. Renault also claims that the Duster can run in electric mode for up to 80 per cent of city driving. The gap in output figures mainly comes down to engine size and battery capacity. The Duster’s larger engine and battery allow it to deliver stronger performance. The Victoris, on the other hand, benefits from a more compact and lighter hybrid system, which helps improve fuel economy.Stay tuned to TOI Auto for latest updates on the automotive sector and do follow us on our social media handles on Facebook, Instagram and X.
