'Mankatha' re-release box office collection: Ajith starrer fails to break Vijay's 'Ghilli' re-release collection, surpasses Rs 11 crore
Ajith Kumar’s ‘Mankatha’ re-release captivated audiences, earning over Rs 11 crore in India and strengthening its cult status. While it became the top-grossing Tamil re-release, it fell short of ‘Ghilli’ and ‘Padayappa’s’ impressive box office figures. The film’s enduring legacy and strong revisit value are evident despite not breaking all previous re-release records.

Ajith Kumar’s cult classic ‘Mankatha’ roared back into the theaters this Republic Day weekend, with the crowds flocking in large numbers, just like it was during the film’s first run! Directed by Venkat Prabhu, ‘Mankatha’ has proved its mettle to its fans, especially in Tamil Nadu markets. The celebrations this weekend have also further strengthened the cult status of the film, which turned out to be one of the most remarkable performances of Ajith’s film collection. ‘Mankatha’ turned out to be the top-grossing re-release Tamil film based on the box office collections.

‘Makantha’ gets a strong opening

The re-release opened well with a gross of more than Rs 4 crore on day one in India, as per a trade report from India Today. The earnings were stable on the 4th day but were mainly down to the massive turnout in Tennessee. The movie at the weekend box office grossed Rs 11.75 crore in India, and Tamil Nadu added close to Rs 11.25 crore. The overseas figures did help to some extent, as they brought in Rs. 1,25 crore for worldwide Rs 13 crore at the end of day 4.

‘Mankatha’ falls short of ‘Ghilli’ and ‘Padayappa’

However, ‘Mankatha’ was rated after these numbers as the third-highest-grossing re-release of Tamil films to date. ‘Mankatha’ is only behind Rajinikanth’s ‘Padayappa’, which grossed Rs. 18 crores on its re-release, and ‘Ghilli’, the 1st position all-time re-release collections with over Rs. 30 crores. In South Indian movies, ‘Mankatha’ is 4th in the all-time Top re-release collections, with SS Rajamouli’s ‘Bahubali: the Epic’ overtly topping with the worldwide collections of over Rs 50 crores. Although it did not beat them, the numbers circulated are proving that it has a strong revisit value.

‘Mankatha’: Legacy that outlives the numbers

Released in August 2011, the film ‘Mankatha’ was a box-office hit that earned more than 75 crores worldwide, and it was a movie that transformed Ajith’s onscreen image into a legendary one. He essayed the role of Vinayak Mahadev, a corrupt Mumbai ACP and was responsible for organizing a thrilling robbery to achieve the aim of stealing the dark money earned from underground cricket betting.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and data in this article are compiled from diverse public and industry sources.
