US President Donald Trump on Thursday said “he would go to Pakistan” if a peace agreement between the United States and Iran is finalised in Islamabad.“I would go to Pakistan, yeah,” Trump told reporters at the White House before departing for Las Vegas. “If the deal is signed in Islamabad, I might go. They want me to go,” he added.Trump praised Pakistan’s involvement in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran, describing its role as constructive.He said Pakistani intermediaries in the negotiations “have been so great.”The US President expressed confidence that talks with Iran were progressing well and suggested a breakthrough could come soon.“I think we have a very successful negotiation going on right now,” he said. “If it happens, it’ll be announced fairly soon, and that’ll give us free oil, free Hormuz Strait, everything will be nice. And I think your oil price will go down to lower than what it was before.”The remarks come after a recent round of talks in Islamabad led by US Vice President JD Vance ended without a breakthrough.The White House has earlier said it is considering a second round of negotiations, likely again in Pakistan. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt had told reporters on Wednesday that further talks between the US and Iran “would very likely” be in Islamabad.
‘Fuel prices are not very high’
Trump also said fuel prices were easing amid the diplomatic push.“Well, they’re not very high, if you look at what they were supposed to be, in order to get rid of a nuclear weapon with the danger that entails. So the gas prices have come down very much over the last three, four days,” he said.Addressing inflation, he added: “I inherited the highest prices in the history of our country, the worst inflation in the history of our country. I’ll get it down to a very low number and it’s still low.”The remarks come as diplomatic engagement over the Iran conflict gathers pace, with efforts underway to reach a negotiated settlement and ease tensions in the region.
