'He lost so many people': Zubeen Garg’s wife opens up on the singer’s biggest fear before death and personal losses
Six months post Zubeen Garg’s tragic passing, his wife has disclosed his longstanding dread of time, possibly exacerbated by his recent emotional struggles. Once classified as an accidental death in Singapore, the case is now stirring controversy as an SIT investigates it as a potential homicide, fueled by the Chief Minister’s suspicions. The search for truth is far from over.

Nearly six months after the death of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, his wife Garima Garg shared an emotional account of the fear that stayed with him in his final years. Speaking at the Panchayat Aaj Tak Assam event, Garima said the singer often spoke about the one thing that troubled him most, time. Her remarks have again brought public attention to Garg’s final months, the pain he carried after repeated personal loss, and the controversy that continues to surround his death in Singapore on September 19, 2025.

Zubeen Garg’s biggest fear before death

As India Today reported, Garima Garg opened up about the late Zubeen Garg’s state of mind in the years before his death during the event. She recalled how strongly he seemed to feel the passage of time and said he often spoke about it, as though he sensed how fragile life can be. Garima said she did not fully understand those feelings then, but now believes they may have stemmed from the personal losses he endured in a short period. She said, “I don’t know why. Maybe he got a call from inside or that was a heavenly connection he felt probably because he lost his mother, his sister and best friend untimely. Within a short period of time, he lost so many people, he faced so many incidents, that is so unfortunate for his life.”

Zubeen Garg’s death case and SIT probe

Garg died while swimming in Singapore, where he had traveled as a cultural brand ambassador for the North East India Festival. His death first appeared straightforward, with authorities in Singapore initially ruling out any foul play. But the case later took a sharp turn in India. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later said the singer’s death was not accidental but a case of “plain and simple” murder. That statement intensified scrutiny around the incident and pushed the case into a fresh phase. Following the controversy, the Assam government set up a Special Investigation Team to examine the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death.Investigators then registered a case under several sections, including criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and causing death by negligence. Later, murder charges were also added. The probe remains active as authorities continue to investigate what happened in the final moments of Zubeen Garg’s life.
