TMZ was the first to report that former Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was arrested for insurance fraud on Wednesday. He was also apprehended for hiding financial information. He either concealed the information or failed to disclose insurance benefits or payments.The Super Bowl champion was booked in jail at around 8AM on Wednesday. He has now been released. TMZ could not gather further insight into the matter.According to California law, insurance fraud is a felony. It can carry a sentence of up to 5 years in prison and/or a fine double the amount of the fraud.

According to the California Department of Insurance website, insurance fraud occurs when someone knowingly lies to obtain a benefit or advantage to which they are not otherwise entitled or knowingly denies a benefit that is due and to which someone is entitled.According to the law, the crime of insurance fraud can be prosecuted when the suspect had the intent to defraud, when an act is completed, when the act and intent come together, and actual monetary loss is not necessary as long as the suspect has committed an act and had the intent to commit the crime.Alshon Jeffery is a 36-year-old former wide receiver who was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2012 as the second-round, 45th overall pick. He played five seasons for them before joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. He played four seasons for the Eagles.Over the course of his NFL journey, he won a Super Bowl [LII] as a Philadelphia Eagle when his team beat the New England Patriots [41-33] in February 2018. Jeffery defeated NFL legend Tom Brady and the legendary coach Bill Belichick’s franchise then and played with Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce. He clocked three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown in the Big Game.

Over the course of nine seasons, Jeffery recorded 475 receptions on 829 targets for 6,786 receiving yards and 46 touchdowns in 109 games. He had just five fumbles over nine years. He has one Pro Bowl selection in 2013 and is considered one of the 100 Greatest Bears of All-Time. He played college football for the South Carolina Gamecocks.According to his Instagram profile, which goes by the handle name of “alshonjeffery,” his latest post is from March 2026.
