New Delhi: The family of retired RBI employee Madho Ram has alleged that he was killed during a robbery at his Mandir Marg residence on Sunday.Around 5.30pm, Ram was found in a room with multiple stab injuries. Police have arrested Azad Khan and his wife, Rubina, known to the family for long, in the case. While police said the motive appeared to be a money-lending dispute, the family alleged that robbery was the motive. The victim’s son, Siddhant (26), told TOI that gold jewellery and cash were stolen. “A gold chain, two to three rings, and cash were stolen after stabbing my father,” he said. The family, which depended on Ram’s pension, said his death had left them in financial distress. Siddhant, who is pursuing a BA through SOL, said they were also planning his sister’s marriage. “With my father’s death, our future looks uncertain, my education and my sister’s marriage plans are now in jeopardy,” he rued.Siddhant alleged that Khan, known to the family for 15-20 years, had made two to three reconnaissance visits on the day of the incident, apparently to check when Ram would be alone. “He had earned our trust and used to visit frequently. No one suspected him,” he said. The son added that his mother was leaving for a function when his father asked her for water. Khan had arrived at that point and offered to give it instead. Siddhant claimed that Khan had brought a pair of scissors to kill his father and might have attacked him when he was asleep.A family friend said an electrician who visited the house later found Ram lying in a pool of blood and alerted neighbours, following which police were called.Police said Rubina had admitted to attempting to destroy evidence by washing Khan’s blood-stained clothes.
