Delhi’s summer can be brutal, and when temperatures start crossing 40 degrees, it is not just people who feel the pressure. Your car goes through a lot more stress than usual. Long traffic jams, hot tarmac and constant AC usage push every mechanical component harder than normal. Overheating, tyre failures and battery issues become far more common during this time. The good part is that most of these problems can be avoided with some basic checks and smarter driving habits. If you use your car daily in Delhi, especially in peak heat, a little extra attention can save you from bigger trouble.
Check coolant levels regularly
You should always keep an eye on your coolant level in summer. The engine works harder in traffic and heat, which increases the risk of overheating. If the coolant is low or old, it won’t do its job properly. Top it up and get it flushed if it hasn’t been changed in a while.
Tyre pressure needs attention
Hot roads and rising temperatures increase tyre pressure naturally. You can’t just follow the same pressure you use in winters. Slightly lower it as per manufacturer guidance and check it every few days. Overinflated tyres in heat can lead to blowouts, especially on highways.
Never ignore engine temperature warnings
If your car shows a high temperature warning, don’t push it. You should stop safely and let the engine cool down. Driving further can cause serious engine damage. Heatwaves make overheating more common, especially in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Battery health matters more than you think
Extreme heat can drain your car battery faster than expected. If your car is struggling to start or the lights feel dim, get it checked. You don’t want to be stranded in 45-degree heat because of a weak battery.
AC system should be in top condition
Your AC is not just about comfort. It helps you stay focused while driving. If cooling feels weak, get the gas level and filters checked. A properly working AC also reduces fatigue during long drives in traffic.
Keep an eye on fluids beyond coolant
Engine oil, brake fluid and windshield washer fluid all matter in this heat. Oil can thin out faster, affecting performance. Brake fluid can also heat up under stress. Regular checks can prevent bigger issues later.
Park smart whenever possible
You should always try to park in shade or use a sunshade. It keeps the cabin temperature under control and protects your dashboard and electronics. A car left in direct sunlight for hours can feel extremely uncomfortable when you get back in.
Plan drives and avoid peak heat hours
If possible, avoid driving in the afternoon when the heat is at its peak. Early mornings or late evenings are easier on both you and your car. Less heat means less stress on the engine, tyres and cooling system.
