Delhi schools summer vacation 2026 announced, remedial classes planned for classes 9, 10 and 12

The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has announced the summer vacation schedule for government schools along with remedial classes for students of classes 9, 10 and 12.According to an official circular issued on Friday, summer vacation in government schools will be from May 11 to June 30. At the same time, remedial classes will be held from May 11 to May 23, depending on the availability of teachers and school facilities.The DoE said the aim of these sessions is to strengthen key concepts and improve learning outcomes for students. The circular stated that the classes will be conducted in the morning hours to ensure better focus and a structured learning environment.

Class timings and structure

As per the notification, remedial classes will run from 7.30 am to 10.30 am. Teachers will report to school at 7.20 am and remain till 11 am. Each day will have three periods of one hour each.In double-shift schools, the remedial sessions will be conducted in separate wings to avoid disruption of regular functioning.

Focus on core subjects

For classes 9 and 10, the focus will mainly be on Science and Mathematics. However, school heads have been given the flexibility to include other subjects based on academic needs, result analysis and availability of teachers.“For classes 9 and 10, the focus will be on Science and Mathematics, though heads of school may choose other subjects based on academic requirements, result analysis and availability of subject teachers,” the notification said.For class 12, the choice of subjects will be decided by the school heads depending on student requirements.

Instructions for schools

The DoE has directed school heads to prepare timetables in advance and submit them to the concerned Deputy Director of Education (DDE) before the vacation begins. Schools have also been asked to inform students and parents through available communication channels.Attendance during remedial classes will be marked online, and students will be required to wear school uniforms. Parental consent has also been made mandatory for participation.

Support and monitoring system

The circular stated that library facilities will remain open for self-study and book issuance during the remedial period. Teachers have been instructed to focus on improving student performance.Schools have also been directed to ensure basic facilities such as clean drinking water for students attending classes. Guest and contract teachers may be engaged if required.Regular teachers assigned to remedial classes will be granted earned leave, while guest teachers will be paid as per norms.The DoE has further directed Deputy Directors of Education at district and zonal levels to ensure proper implementation of the programme and conduct daily visits to at least two schools running remedial classes.
