Cuncolim woman loses Rs 2 lakh to cyber fraudsters posing as Delhi Police, Google officials

Margao: A woman from Cuncolim was cheated of Rs 2 lakh by cyber fraudsters who impersonated Delhi Police officers and Google Chrome representatives. The complainant, Supriya Dessai, a resident of Culwaddo, Cuncolim, told police that on April 22, unknown persons contacted her and falsely claimed to be officials of Delhi Police and representatives of Google Chrome.The police said that the accused criminally intimidated her by threatening that an FIR and arrest warrant would be issued against her unless she paid the demanded amount.Acting under the fear they created, Dessai transferred approximately Rs 2 lakh to different bank accounts and UPI IDs provided by the accused.The case was registered under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
