The International League T20 (ILT20) is doubling down on its scheduling strategy ahead of Season 5, with CEO David White explaining the rationale behind an even earlier window for the UAE-based league in November–December 2026.Reflecting on the previous edition, White pointed to a key shift that helped Season 4 deliver strong results.

“We did change the window for Season 4 because of the clash with the ICC World Cup in India. We changed the window and brought it forward which was very successful. We had great player availability. Our commercial metrics were very good,” he told TimesofIndia.com.The tweak in scheduling translated into gains across the board.“Our broadcast numbers were up and it was well received by all the teams, the commercial partners, etc.”Building on that momentum, ILT20 has moved even earlier this year, with the tournament set to run from November 22 to December 20.“But what we have done this year is we have actually brought the window forward even more. So we are commencing 22nd of November to 20th of December and we believe that is going to be a fantastic window.”The rationale is clear — create a largely uncluttered space in an increasingly crowded global T20 calendar.“We believe that it will be a cleaner window. There will be no overlap with other T20 leagues around the world. A small, I think about a 4-day overlap with the Big Bash (League). But apart from that, a very clean window.”

That clarity is already translating into stronger player interest, said White.“And already we are getting great feedback that we can have terrific player availability from world-class players around the world. So really looking forward to that.”Beyond scheduling, the league is also sharpening its regional identity and development focus. ILT20 is positioning itself not just as a UAE tournament, but as a broader Gulf platform.“We will continue to build on the success of last year of the involvement with the Kuwait players and the Saudi players. That is really gaining momentum as we see ourselves not just as a UAE league but also a league representing the GCC region,” said the former New Zealand Cricket cricketer and executive.Player development, particularly for Associate nations, remains central to the league’s structure.“We pride ourselves on the fact that we make it compulsory for an Associate member to be part of the Playing XI. That is really well received and is a big part of the development programme for Associates as well.”With preparations underway, the focus now shifts to squad building and commercial alignment.“Planning is going really well. We are working incredibly hard in terms of work with our commercial partners and our teams.”“And within the next 4-6 weeks I think we will have our first wave of announcement of player retentions.”
