A Bengaluru homemaker tragically smothered her 13-year-old daughter before taking her own life.

BENGALURU: A 45-year-old homemaker smothered her minor daughter to death before committing suicide at her Immadihalli residence in Whitefield Monday. The deceased are Suvarna Chandrashekhar and her daughter Tarunya Chandrashekhar, 13.The incident came to light when Suvarna’s husband Chandrashekhar repeatedly called her on her mobile and, on getting no response, asked his younger brother to visit the house. He reached the house around 11am and, after getting no response, peeped through the bedroom window. There, he saw Suvarna hanging from the ceiling fan and Tarunya lying dead on the bed. Immediately, he alerted police.“Preliminary investigations revealed that Suvarna pressed a pillow on Tarunya and, after confirming that Tarunya had died, hanged herself from the ceiling fan. We did not come across a death note or messages in the phone. According to Chandrashekhar, Suvarna was under depression and the same could have provoked her for the act,” police said.Chandrashekhar works as computer operator for a private hospital near ITPL. Tarunya was a Class VII student at a private school.“According to Chandrashekhar, Suvarna always expressed concern, saying who will look after Tarunya if she dies. Suvarna was also worried that Chandrashekhar had heart-related issues,” a senior police officer said.Police investigations revealed that Chandrashekhar, Suvarna and Tarunya had dinner at a restuarant on Monday. “They had watched a cricket match at home before heading to the restuarant. After the dinner, Suvarna told Chandrashekhar that she was tired and would not prepare breakfast the next day. Chandrashekhar slept in a seperate bedroom and had a breakfast outside before heading to work,” an investigating officer said.
