'Men have a problem with stronger women': 'Kohrra 2' star Barun Sobti calls out patriarchy in the film industry and real life
Barun Sobti stars in ‘Kohrra Season 2’ as a cop under a female boss (Mona Singh), highlighting men’s struggles with women in authority—a real issue, even in films. ‘Kohrra Season 1’ boosted his career; he’s also in ‘Asur’, ‘Raat Jawaan Hai’, and films like ‘Tu Hai Mera Sunday’.

Barun Sobti is back with ‘Kohrra’ Season 2, where he plays a police officer working under a female boss, played by Mona Singh. The show highlights how some men find it hard to take orders from a woman, and Barun says this happens in real life too, even in the film industry.

Barun Sobti talks about patriarchy in real life

Talking to Hindustan Times, Barun said, “It depends on the family you’ve grown up in but yes, this is a common notion. We just cannot deny it. It can’t be like no this is not true. It’s absolutely true and evident that men have a problem with stronger women. Taking orders from them is still a bigger thing, but even if a woman says a strong point in an argument, I see men getting uncomfortable. I’m not talking about all men at all but majorly that is the case.”The actor admits that the first season of ‘Kohrra’ completely changed the direction of his career. Reflecting on his journey, he shared, “If I was to narrow it down, it was supposed to be when OTT shows started coming out and they started doing well. It started from Asur when it came out first. I don’t know how many people saw it but it was a very popular show but what happened with Kohrra was that in terms of viewership, there are shows that people watch and then there’s shows that the industry watches. Kohrra was the show that the industry watched and that’s why I started getting more work. It’s only actually now that I’m working a lot”.

Barun Sobti’s successful shows and film projects

Barun has featured in acclaimed shows like ‘Asur’, ‘Raat Jawaan Hai’, and ‘Kohrra’, all of which earned him widespread praise. The first season of ‘Kohrra’ turned out to be a surprise hit, winning appreciation for both its story and Barun’s performance, while the second season has also been well received. He has also ventured into films with projects such as ‘Main Aur Mr. Riight’, ‘Tu Hai Mera Sunday’, and ‘22 Yards’.
