Audi e-tron, Q8 e-tron recalled: Problem and backup system explained

Audi has announced a recall of select electric cars in India due to a potential issue with the braking system. The recall covers the Audi e-tron, Audi e-tron Sportback, Audi Q8 e-tron and Audi Q8 e-tron Sportback. These vehicles were manufactured between 2 February 2018 and 11 June 2024.As per the official information, a total of 207 units are affected in the Indian market. The company has not shared a model-wise split of the recalled vehicles. The issue relates to a specific component in the braking system. Audi has identified that the bolted connection for the brake servo push rod in these models may not fully meet technical specifications. Over time, this connection could gradually loosen, which may affect the mechanical link between the brake pedal and the brake servo. If this connection weakens, the transfer of force from the brake pedal to the braking system may not function as intended. In rare cases, if the connection becomes completely loose, the primary braking link may no longer remain secure.

Audi has equipped these vehicles with a backup safety system. In such a scenario, drivers can activate a controlled emergency braking function by pressing and holding the electromechanical parking brake button on the centre console. This allows the vehicle to slow down and come to a stop safely. The recall has been initiated as a precautionary step to rectify the issue and ensure that all affected vehicles continue to meet the brand’s safety standards.Stay tuned to TOI Auto for latest updates on the automotive sector and do follow us on our social media handles on Facebook, Instagram and X.
