In a coordinated counter-insurgency action, security forces led by Indian Army destroyed 10 illegal bunkers and firing positions in Manipur’s Jalenbung Hills and Thoyee Heights, officials said on Thursday. The joint security teams, comprising Indian Army’s Red Shield Division, CAPF and Manipur Police, carried out area domination operations and destroyed multiple hostile structures in the region.As part of ongoing operations along Imphal-Dimapur National Highway-2, the security teams targeted Jalenbung Hills and Thoyee Heights to prevent re-establishment of militant infrastructure, the officials said. Two joint columns conducted simultaneous patrols on either side of the national highway as part of the exercise.At Jalenbung Hills, a security sweep resulted in identification and subsequent destruction of five bunkers that had previously been dismantled but were found to be rebuilt. A similar operation at Thoyee Heights and adjoining Mahadev Hills led to destruction of another five re-built bunkers.Meanwhile, a statement from Manipur police said that search operations and area domination exercises are continuing in fringe and vulnerable areas across multiple districts. Over 110 nakas and checkpoints are currently active across hill and valley districts. Earlier, security forces had destroyed 21 illegal bunkers in Ukhrul district.
