Amid AR Rahman’s ‘communal bias’ remark, son AR Ameen says, ‘My dad’s legacy has reached a place no one can imagine’

AR Rahman recently found himself at the centre of a controversy after his remarks about alleged communal bias in the Hindi film industry sparked intense debate online. The comments drew both support and backlash, bringing renewed focus on the composer’s journey and standing in Bollywood. Amid the ongoing discussion, his son AR Ameen has spoken candidly about working with his father and carving his own path in music.

‘He always scolds me’: AR Ameen on working with AR Rahman

While promoting his latest song, AR Ameen opened up about his close professional relationship with his Oscar-winning father. Speaking to Filmygyan, he was asked if Rahman ever scolds him. Ameen replied with a smile, “He always scolds me.”

He went on to describe the creative process behind their latest collaboration, saying, “But the process of making this song was very special. A big thanks to Jasleen—her voice is amazing. The texture of her voice added so much warmth to the song. My dad and I are working together and producing it. We added an Afrobeat vibe, and thanks to Irshad Kamil ji, who penned such beautiful lyrics for this.”

‘I am starting my own small journey’

Reflecting on his own career and the inevitable comparisons with his father, AR Ameen struck a grounded note. “My dad’s legacy has reached a place no one can imagine. I think I am starting my own small journey. I have a long way to go, with a lot of work and commitment ahead. I want to put my heart and soul into it. AR Ameen defends his father amid backlash

Following the backlash over Rahman’s comments on limited opportunities in the Hindi film industry due to what he described as “communal” factors, AR Ameen publicly came out in support of his father. Taking to Instagram Stories, he referred to Rahman as a “legend for life” and said his legacy is “written forever in the books.”Ameen shared a video of his father performing with Ed Sheeran and also posted content featuring Marvel’s Iron Man, underlining that Rahman’s legacy cannot be taken away. He also addressed what he called “baseless” rumours surrounding his parents’ marriage, urging people to respect their privacy and dignity, and stating that it was “hurtful” to see such misinformation being spread.Ameen’s sisters, Khatija and Raheema, also extended their support, with Raheema calling out those spreading hate and false narratives.

AR Ameen’s new song ‘Bheegi Bheegi’

Amid all the attention, AR Ameen has also reached an important musical milestone. The 23-year-old has released his new song Bheegi Bheegi, which features Sita Ramam stars Mrunal Thakur and Dulquer Salmaan. The track has vocals by Ameen and Jasleen Royal and marks a collaboration between father and son as producers.
