Amavasya that falls in the month of Jyeshtha is also known as Shani Amavasya or Shani Jayanti. This month, Shani Amavasya is going to be observed on May 16, 2026.

Amavasya is one of the most powerful days, which is devoted to ancestors or forefathers. This day is considered as an opportunity when you can perform various religious and spiritual activities to appease your ancestors. On this auspicious day, people visit various Ganga ghats and they take a holy dip in Ganga river. The day is also observed as Shani Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Shani dev so it is an opportunity for the people to perform activities to appease Shani dev and those who have a Shani dosha in their birth chart, can perform those activities to eliminate Shani dosha. Due to the fact that Jyeshtha Amavasya falls on a Saturday, it is also a very fortunate Shani Amavasya and will be honored with great devotion throughout India. It is believed to be rewarding to perform pitru tarpan and pind daan on this specific day. This day is believed to bring peace to the departed souls. Vat Savirti Vrat will also be observed by the married Hindu women for their husband’s good health and longevity. This festival is mainly celebrated in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana and Punjab.

1. Wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath in Ganga river. 2. Those who are taking bath at home, they can add few drops of Ganga water and then take bath. 3. It is considered meritorious to offer water to Lord Surya in the morning. 4. People get engaged in various spiritual activities such as meditation, donation, mantra chanting and worshipping Lor Shani dev to mitigate the karmic burdens.5. It is rewarding to light a mustard oil diya beneath the peepal tree.
