After calling Bengal results right, Singh says ‘Bengali ‘asmita’ to be central to BJP’s governance

Lucknow: Following the BJP’s victory in West Bengal, political strategist and predictor Vimal Singh has said the “new Bengal of the new era” under BJP rule would focus on development rooted in “Bengali asmita”.Singh had correctly predicted Bengal and Assam results three months before the polls, saying that Mamata Banerjee would face sustained political pressure as the BJP had already altered Bengal’s “psychological terrain”. He said on Wednesday the party’s rise was based not only on electoral arithmetic but also on emotional and ideological acceptance among a large section of Bengali voters.

“With the BJP now about to govern Bengal, the party understands that governance in the state cannot ignore Bengali identity, cultural emotions and regional pride,” Singh said.Referring to the exit of the Tata Motors Nano project from Singur after prolonged political protests, Singh said the BJP would pursue industrialisation and investments while ensuring that local sentiments and cultural identity remained central to policy-making.According to Singh, the BJP’s Bengal model would attempt to combine economic expansion, infrastructure growth and industrial investment with preservation of Bengali traditions and emotional narratives.“Bengali asmita will remain central to BJP’s governance approach in the state. Cultural traditions, emotional narratives and questions of identity will continue to shape both voter behaviour and policy direction,” he said.Singh further noted that issues linked to border management, migration and relations with Bangladesh would remain politically significant in Bengal in the coming years. He said the BJP’s victory represented not merely a transfer of political power but a deeper shift in Bengal’s political psychology, where development, nationalism and regional identity were increasingly converging into a new political narrative.
