Worried about Jeep leaving India? Brand shares full India plans

Concerns around Jeep’s future in India have been doing the rounds for a while now. Limited new product launches, gradually plummeting sales, and a relatively small showroom network compared to rivals have all contributed to speculation about whether Jeep could be next. Add to that Stellantis’ global restructuring and it is easy to see why there are questions about the brand’s long-term plans in India. However, now the brand has officially revealed its future plans for India, hinting at a long-term commitment.

Jeep reveals long-term India plans

The SUV brand has now officially reaffirmed its commitment to the Indian market by announcing its India-focused Strategic Plan Jeep 2.0, with the country positioned at the centre of its Asia Pacific strategy. The plan will include a combination of product actions, deeper localisation, stronger aftersales support and a growing role for India as a global export hub.According to Jeep, India will continue to play a dual role in its global operations, both as a domestic market and as a key manufacturing, engineering and software base supporting other regions. The brand already manufactures vehicles at its Ranjangaon facility near Pune, which has an installed annual capacity of 1.6 lakh units. This plant currently supplies models such as the Compass, Meridian and Commander to international markets including Japan, Australia and New Zealand, with exports set to expand further to markets in Africa and North America. In India, though, the brand has four models on sale: the Compass, the Meridien, the Wrangler, and lastly, the flagship Grand Cherokee.

A major pillar of Jeep 2.0 is localisation. Jeep plans to increase localisation levels in India to 90 percent, up from the current 65–70 percent. The move is expected to improve cost competitiveness and strengthen the supply chain. The company believes this will help it stay resilient in a market that is highly price-sensitive and increasingly competitive. On the product front, Jeep has confirmed that new model introductions are planned for India, with the first model from its future lineup expected to arrive from 2027 onwards. Until then, the brand will continue to refresh its existing portfolio with special editions and updates to keep its current lineup relevant. Another key focus area is ownership experience. Under its Confidence 7 programme, Jeep is expanding initiatives such as the Assured Buyback Programme, pre-maintenance packages and multi-year extended warranties. Jeep currently operates in 70 cities across India, supported by more than 85 sales and service touchpoints, and says it is evaluating further network expansion.
