Masik Shivratri is the sacred day dedicated to Lord Shiva. The day holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. Shivratri falls every month and devotees of Lord Shiva worship him with devotion and purity. The day is considered as an extremely auspicious day seek blessings of Lord Shiva. Devotees observe fast from dawn to dusk and offer their sincere prayers to Lord Mahadev and chant various sacred mantras dedicated to Mahadev. This month, Masik Shivratri is going to be observed on Chaturdashi tithi of krishna paksha in the month of Jyeshtha i.e., May 15, 2026.

Masik Shivratri May 2026: Significance

Masik Shivratri is holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. The day is observed every month on the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi. Lord Shiva is worshipped on this auspicious day and devotees appease him by following various puja rituals and following spiritual activities. People, who worship Lord Shiva are advised to get engaged in various puja rituals on this specific day. Lord Shiva grants all the wishes of his devotees, who worship him with devotion. He removes all the obstacles from your life. Unmarried people also observe this fast to receive marital harmony in life while married couples worship him for the well being of their families. Masik Shivratri is observed every month on the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi.

Rituals to Follow on Masik Shivratri:

1. Observe fast

Devotees observe a fast from dawn to dusk. Some devotees observe fast by having fruits and some devotees observe fast by having one time meal. They can eat normal sattvik food and they should avoid tamasik food.

2. Perform Abhishekam

Devotees are advised to visit Shiva temple and perform abhishekam to Shivalingam by offering five sacred items such as milk, curd, honey, sugar powder and ghee.

3. Chant Mantra

Mantra chanting is one of the most powerful ways to appease Lord Shiva and they should chant “Om Namah Shivaye” and “Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra” to seek spiritual blessings.

4. Recite Shiva Chalisa

Shiva Chalisa is the sacred book dedicated to Lord Shiva so one must spend their day reading the holy book.
