The day is also observed as Shani Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Shani dev so it is an opportunity for the people to perform activities to appease Shani dev and those who have a Shani dosha in their birth chart, can perform those activities to eliminate Shani dosha. Due to the fact that Jyeshtha Amavasya falls on a Saturday, it is also a very fortunate Shani Amavasya and will be honored with great devotion throughout India. It is believed to be rewarding to perform pitru tarpan and pind daan on this specific day. This day is believed to bring peace to the departed souls. Vat Savirti Vrat will also be observed by the married Hindu women for their husband’s good health and longevity.
