GUWAHATI: Security personnel on Tuesday detained a man at the venue of the swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam government after he was allegedly found carrying a few rounds of live bullets, police said, according to PTI. The incident took place at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara during security screening at the entrance, they said. “He was taken into custody for questioning. He is being taken to Basistha police station,” an officer said. However, police clarified that no arms were recovered from the person. “An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the recovery and whether any security threat was involved,” the officer added. The development occurred minutes before Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya was scheduled to administer the oath of office and secrecy to Himanta Biswa Sarma as chief minister along with the new Council of Ministers. The high-profile event is being attended by top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, along with over 40 NDA chief ministers and deputy chief ministers. Several diplomats and leading industrialists are also present at the ceremony, which is expected to witness a crowd of nearly one lakh people.
