'You know what you did on birthday': Harassed in relationship, Class 12 student dies by suicide in Gurgaon
Harassed in a suspected relationship, a 17-year-old Class 12 student took the extreme step on Wednesday at her house in Khoh village.

GURGAON: Harassed in a suspected relationship, a 17-year-old Class 12 student took the extreme step on Wednesday at her house in Khoh village. The victim left a two-page suicide note in which she expressed her fondness for a youth and clarified that she never thought ill of him and had genuine feelings, which he doubted. In her note, she apologised 17 times, stating that she could not understand what to do when she was continuously questioned and looked down upon by the youth she had known for a year, as well as by others. She wrote that she felt misunderstood and did not want others to disrespect her. She also narrated an incident in which she was allegedly harassed and abused at her tuition class by a friend.

Addressing the suicide note to the youth, she said, “You know what you did or said to me on my birthday (unclear whose birthday), which made me feel worse.” No one was at home at the time of the incident. When the family returned, they found the student’s body hanging in her room. The family informed the police, who arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation. The suicide note was recovered from her belongings. Police have initiated an investigation keeping all facts in consideration. They also contacted the boy mentioned in the suicide note and have retrieved his chats with friends regarding the victim. The deceased’s family originally hails from Rohtas district in Bihar. Her father runs a ration shop, and her mother is a teacher at a private school. She is also survived by an elder brother. According to the father, no one was at home. When he returned around 1:30 pm for lunch, he found his daughter hanging in her room. The father has accused the youth of harassing his daughter. Police are investigating the case.
