Shopowner shot on way to mosque in West Burdwan

Hirapur: An unidentified bike-borne assailant shot dead a 45-year-old shopowner on his way to offer prayers at a nearby mosque in Karim Dangal in West Burdwan’s Hirapur on Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Md Sarfuddin, the owner of a grilles and other steel structures shop in the area, reports Mohammad Asif.Police have arrested three people, including two relatives of the deceased. Locals said the assailant arrived on a motorcycle and fired at Sarfuddin at close range and fled the scene. A pistol was also found at the scene. Police took Sarfuddin to the Asansol District Hospital where he was declared dead. The body was sent for post-mortem. Police have also cordoned off the area and are going through CCTV footage as part of their probe.
