Yash on humanising Ravana in 'Ramayana': 'It's important for people to relate to him'

Yash spilled the beans about ‘Ramayana‘ at CinemaCon and his fans could not be any more happier. The actor, who has been in the headlines all week long, thanks to his unfiltered interactions with the media in Los Angeles, was back on the top trends on social media after he shared an interesting aspect about his character. The actor, who will play the villain, Ravana in the mythological epic, shared fresh details about his approach to portraying the grey-shaded character.

Speaking to a news channel, the actor confessed that it was a challenge adapting the mythological character for a global audience. As per a video shared online, Yash said, “I have tried to internalise the essence of Ravana and make him as human as possible. At times it’s important for people to relate to him, especially because we have global ambitions (for the film), so we need to make it familiar to the western audience as well.”

Yash on challenges of playing Ravana

The actor, whoever, emphasised filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra were equally mindful of preserving the cultural and spiritual significance associated with the character. He explained, “The story should not deviate from the belief system of people. It was a great challenge but I had fun playing this character, because it’s got so many shades and it’s a dream for any actor to play him.”

‘Ramayana’ cast and release date

Yash will play the role of Ravana, opposite Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita. Although in another interaction, the actor admitted that while the film sets his character up to take on Ranbir’s Lord Ram, the two will not share any scenes in the first part of the film slated for a Diwali release. As per the actor, the movie is eyeing an end-of-October release.
